THE BIRTH OF JESUS
THE Roman Emperor Augustus ordered
all the people under his rule to be counted. Joseph and Mary left their home in Nazareth and traveled
to Bethlehem. So many people had come to be registered that there was no room for them in the inn. Outside
the town, on hills, they found a cave. Here Jesus was born. Mary wrapped him in soft clothing and laid him
in a manger. Jesus was the son of God. He came to help us on our way to the Father.

THE CHILD JESUS IN THE TEMPLE WHEN Jesus was twelve years old,
he went up to Jerusalem with Mary and Joseph. After the feast, his parents stared home and discovered that Jesus
was not with them. For three days they looked for him without finding him. At last the found Jesus in the Temple,
surrounded by learned men, listening to them and asking them questions. Mary did not understand that Jesus
was doing the work of his Heavenly Father. He returned obediently to Nazareth.
